It seems there were some database problems with my website this morning making the site not accessible. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Well, yesterday was a very good day on the prediction front as my predictions were 6 for 6. It also helped immensely my betting record as my total rose to $120.10. A 20% return is not bad after just 4 days of betting. At this rate I’ll be able to plan my early retirement. Well, maybe not, but anyway, so far so good. Lets see if we can keep things going tonight.

Home Team Road Team Predicted Winner Confidence
NY Rangers Pittsburgh NY Rangers Strong
New Jersey Ottawa Ottawa Strong
Detroit St. Louis Detroit Strong
Dallas Nashville Dallas Good
Calgary Columbus Calgary Strong
Anaheim San Jose Anaheim Some

That’s a lot of potential one-sided games tonight. Three of the four ‘strong’ games feature very good teams against very bad teams. The fourth is Ottawa at New Jersey which is a bit surprising that it is a strong game. If Brodeur continues his good goaltending this could definitely be a potential upset. Also surprising is that Dallas is a good favourite over Nashville. I would have thought ‘some’ would have been more appropriate but who’s to argue with the algorithm that has been very successful the past couple days.

The most important game of the night though is Anaheim/San Jose. Both these teams are fighting to get back in the playoff race. Anaheim currently sits 4 points back form 8th place Edmonton while San Jose has fallen 9 points back, although they have 3 games in hand. Anaheim becomes the favourite because they are the home team but this one could go either way.

how are the rangers a “very strong” team when they are ranked 22nd on your power rankings??

    doesnt make sense to me…

  2.

Look at who they are playing and the difference in their Power Rank score. Now inflate that a tad because the Rangers are at home and you now get why the Rangers are a strong favourite.

    David,
What do you think your chances are of repeating…?????? After a 6-0…..

You have 4 STRONG picks today….. Not usually that many strong…. I already made my bets and took the prices on Nashville and Columbus…. But I am not questioning your success and hope it continues the rest of the season for you and your followers… I love success stories…….

I am impressed with your work so far… Just curious what you think about the situation as a whole…. Do you feel like a Guru or are you feeling lucky or do you think ”preparation and opportunity” has created you a ” lucky ” situation…
Whatever……. Give your analysis if you will……

I wish you luck and not trying to be a smart ass… Too old for that stuff.. Just some honest feed back…. Keep up the good work….

Going back to back 6-0 is going to be difficult but considering that half of the games are pretty unbalanced (very good teams against very bad teams) anything is possible. Early in the year I had an 8 for 8 night and that was the best I’ve had.

I believe that an unbiased, non-emotional, analytical approach is the best approach to take. It stops you from looking at the odds and saying, wow, Columbus is +350, imagine if I won, and then making a stupid bet on Columbus. Or betting on your favourite team. I don’t think I can keep up this pace of the past few days, but I hope that I can show that you can make money using an approach like I have. More importantly though, I want to see good success rates in my predictions so that it gives creedence to my power rankings so I can say things like “The Philadelphia Flyers are overrated” or “The Leafs are not a horrible team as some people seem to believe” and have confidence in what I am saying. If I came out and said that the Leafs are as good, or maybe even a better team than the Flyers, 98% of the hockey world would consider me insane. But is it really that redidulous of a statement? This gets to the root of why I created this website. I believe the truth is in the numbers and the truth can be found if you dig deep enough. This game-prediction exercise is one method of supporting that belief.

For some bizarre reason, I have decided to go with St. Louis to win. Mostly because of the betting lines, which as of when I predicted the games, has St. Louis at a +350 underdog to Detroit. With a $5 bet, I would win $17.50. Too bad I am still to young to gamble real money. Anyway, I went 4-for-6 yesterday with losses in Toronto and NY Islanders winning. But now, I am at $112.55. Hopefully, I can do very well tonight also. With about 2 1/2 weeks until the Torino Olympics, I could get my total at least up to $150.

    Today’s Schedule:
    PIT @ NYR
    OTT @ NJ
    CLB @ CGY
    SJ @ ANH
    STL @ DET
    NSH @ DAL
With the odds on hockey analysis, I have selected 5 of the favorites, with STL being the underdog. I picked NYR (75%), OTT, CGY, and ANH (60%), and STL and DAL (50%).

    75%: 46 for 61, 75.4%
    60%: 82 for 144, 56.9%
    50%: 55 for 118, 46.6%
